
Matt White
Matt White is the Global Chief Technology Officer of AI at the Linux Foundation and Chief Technology Officer at the PyTorch Foundation and the Agentic AI Foundation.
Matt White is a technologist, researcher, and ecosystem builder focused on making open source AI production-grade, trustworthy, and scalable. In his current roles, he serves as Global Chief Technology Officer of AI at the Linux Foundation and as Chief Technology Officer of the PyTorch Foundation and the Agentic AI Foundation, where he helps shape technical strategy, strengthen shared infrastructure, and expand programs that support developers and organizations adopting open source AI. He also leads the Generative AI Commons, convening industry and community stakeholders to advance practical collaboration across the AI lifecycle.
Matt is the first author of the Model Openness Framework, which provides a structured approach to evaluating model “openness” across the AI supply chain. He is also the architect of the OpenMDW license, a purpose-built open source license designed for AI model releases and their associated artifacts. In addition, he is a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science.
With nearly 30 years of experience spanning AI research, standards, and applied systems across telecom, media, and gaming, Matt has specialized since 2012 in machine learning, simulation, and multi-sensory learning.
Matt holds a Master of Data Science from UC Berkeley, an MBA from the University of Denver, and a BSc in Information Technology from York University.
